Progressive enhancement
as a foundation.
A useful experience begins with a page people can read and navigate. Progressive enhancement builds on that foundation, adding richer behavior where it helps.
Start with the essential task
Imagine someone looking for a product. They should be able to open its page, understand what it does and follow a link to learn more. The server can deliver that content as meaningful HTML, with headings and ordinary links already in place.
JavaScript can then make the same journey more fluid: filtering the portfolio, updating part of a page or preserving context during navigation. Those enhancements add convenience without making the basic information depend on a script loading successfully.
Design the fallback first
Use a real link for a destination and a real form for a submission. If an enhancement cannot start—or a network request fails—the visitor should still know what happened and have a clear way to continue. Keyboard access, meaningful labels and visible focus belong in the foundation too.
Keep the server authoritative
Client-side feedback can make an interface feel responsive, but it should not invent a successful result. The server remains responsible for validation and any protected action; the interface should communicate pending, confirmed and failed states honestly.
How our foundations fit
Clean Framework provides the PHP application foundation for routes, controllers and server-rendered views. Front Base JS is designed to attach behavior to HTML and support richer client-side interaction. They are independent projects with a shared respect for the underlying web platform.
